When we are in the life path of discovering joy, there comes a time when we have to contemplate the role of religion. For the greater part of humanity’s existence, religion has claimed to be the one true conduit of joy. Practitioners are often taught that joy can only be found within the church or as a direct result of attendance. To be fair most religions say that the joy comes from God, but the silent implication is that the church i. e. religion is the source from where the joy will arrive. After all, wasn’t it the church that mentioned joy first?

When I first began my spiritual quest,  I discovered, much to my surprise, that I had bought into this concept. While I knew that joy came from God, I was under the mistaken impression that earning or experiencing joy came through service in the church…almost to the total exclusion of any other means. Coming to this realization was tantamount to receiving a slap on the face. It really woke me up. The reason is that I did not realize I felt this way. I was simply doing what was instructed to me.

Since that time I have learned that joy exists anywhere and anytime I choose to accept the gift of joy being sent my way. Joy isn’t dependent upon any particular doctrine or service to a church or religion. Realizing this is a moment of freedom that religion cannot understandTrue Religion Outlet  or even condone. While it is true that spiritual joy can be experienced in church and spiritual service, this is not the only outlet. Basically, joy is anywhere and anytime we seek it. The only prerequisite is to fully understand this aspect.

Joy is freely given and it is up to us to freely receive. The point is that, if religion says joy can only be found within the realms of their doctrines, then it is up to us to question that belief. It is only when we fail to question what we are taught that we fail to place ourselves in the path of joy. God deals with people, not religion. The joy we receive is as personal as a private gift given between friends. It is in this friendship that we find joy.

We must take it upon ourselves to question the binding thoughts we are instructed to embrace and seek out spiritual truth in any and all forms. When we do this, not only do we find that the answers we had were incorrect, but the questions themselves were not correct. It is also in this private and honest search of joy that we discover the path to joy and all the experiences it brings. Joy begins with a silent thought when we first take the courage to ask…why.
